Apportionments
Supporting the connectional ministry of The United Methodist Church is a shared spiritual calling. Apportionments, or connectional giving, are our “first mile” of giving that enables vital work in mission, evangelism, clergy support, education and community outreach well beyond our local walls.
In the Horizon Texas Conference, apportionments fund gospel-making ministries through the annual, jurisdictional and general church partnership. It’s how we live the Wesleyan promise that “no one reaches Christ alone.”
Apportionment Formula and Calculation
Apportionments, or connectional giving targets, are calculated using a formula that multiplies the “offering plate” giving in the local church by a factor. The offering plate giving amount is submitted annually by local churches when they submit their ACStats information in January. The sum of lines 52a, 52b, 52c and 52h equals a church’s offering plate giving. This total is multiplied by the apportionment factor, currently 7.5 percent.
Please note the timing lag in calculating the local church apportionments. The amounts used in the calculation will be for the apportionment target in two years. For example, the offering plate giving for calendar year 2025 is reported in January 2026, which is used for the 2027 apportionment calculation.
