FUMC Whitesboro and Special Needs Dayhab Emphasize Belonging and Inclusion

When Eric and Marci Littleton relocated to Lake Texoma with their 23-year-old son, Solomon, who is autistic and non-verbal, they discovered a significant gap in resources for adults with special needs in their new community. Rather than accept that reality, the Littletons were motivated to create the change they wanted to see.

After multiple opportunities became dead ends, Rev. Dana Coker at First UMC Whitesboro reached out to Eric to have a conversation. That conversation has grown into The Special Needs Dayhab, a safe, loving and inclusive environment where individuals with developmental disabilities can build meaningful connections, develop new skills and participate fully in their community.

But this story is about more than a program, it’s about a church that said yes. First UMC Whitesboro didn’t just support the Littletons’ vision; they embraced Solomon as a beloved member of their congregation and became the family support system they needed. In welcoming Solomon and his parents, the church discovered something beautiful about itself: true discipleship means making space for everyone to belong.
