Dr. Mary Nickson serves as conference co-lay leader in the Horizon Texas Conference. She is a licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor-supervisor and licensed specialist in school psychology.
Nickson earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and a master’s degree in clinical/community psychology from Texas Southern University in Houston. After several years working as a school psychologist in Harris and Fort Bend counties, she earned her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Houston.
For more than 30 years, Nickson has provided mental health services to families, individuals, children and adolescents in schools, universities, local government departments and social service agencies. She has also led trainings and facilitated groups on cultural and diversity awareness, stress and behavior management, and grief and loss.
Using interpersonal, cognitive behavioral and solution-focused therapies, along with other counseling interventions, Nickson currently offers counseling and therapy, as well as psychological and school evaluations, through Connections Counseling & Consulting LLC in Allen, Texas.
She is a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc., the oldest Black businesswomen’s sorority, where she has held several chapter offices. She is also a registered parliamentarian with the National Association of Parliamentarians.
Nickson is a member of Jack and Jill of America Inc., North Suburban Dallas Chapter, where she serves as an Associate Jewel, and United Women in Faith. She is currently a lay member of the HTC Board of Ordained Ministry.
Nickson has been married to her husband, Alfred, for 46 years. They have three children and three grandchildren. She enjoys reading and discussing books with her Well-Versed Women book club, as well as watching movies and traveling.
