Compass Retirement Plan (Clergy Only)

Clergy appointed at least ½ time are eligible to participate in the Compass Retirement Plan. With Compass, the church will make an annual flat contribution based on appointment percentage (full time: $1,800; ¾ time: $1,350; ½ time: $900; ¼ time: not applicable), as well as a nonmatching annual contribution of 3% of Pension Plan Compensation (PPC).

In addition, the church will match personal clergy contributions to Compass up to 4% of PPC. By making personal contributions of at least 4% of PPC, clergy receive the full matching contribution of 4% from the church. In this case, a total of 8% of PPC is added to the clergy member’s account (4% clergy contribution + 4% church match = 8%). This matching contribution is in addition to the flat dollar contribution and the 3% of PPC provided by the church.

If clergy contribute less than 4% of PPC, the church will match only the percentage contributed. If there is no personal contribution, no matching contribution will be made by the church. While the plan is designed to make the full 4% match available, the church will be billed the full annual matching contribution of 4% of PPC regardless of clergy participation. Any surplus matching contributions will be held in a general Horizon Texas Conference pension account at Wespath.

United Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP)

Clergy appointed ¼ time and lay staff can make personal contributions to the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan (UMPIP).

Comprehensive Protection Plan (CPP)

The Comprehensive Protection Plan (CPP) covers death benefits, long-term disability income replacement and other survivor benefits for clergy only. It is billed at 3% of PPC.
