Commission on Religion and Race
In the Horizon Texas Conference, the Pursue & Embrace Diversity Team provides for the functions of the Conference Commission on Religion and Race, as outlined in The United Methodist Book of Discipline, ¶643.
In this role, this team is dedicated to providing support and resources related to intercultural competency, institutional equity and vital conversations at every level of the annual conference.
The Pursue & Embrace Diversity Team works in partnership with the General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR), which sits at the forefront of the church’s work to confront racism, cultivate inclusion, and build the Beloved Community.
Each Annual Conference is called to have a Conference Commission on Religion and Race, assuming responsibility for matters such as: supporting and providing educational programs in areas of intercultural competency; consulting with the Cabinet and the Board of Ordained Ministry to ensure racial/ethnic inclusion and equity in recruitment, credentialing and itineracy processes; and consulting with local churches experiencing changing neighborhood demographics, enabling them to better be in ministry with their communities.
