Compass Retirement Plan Clergy Only

Clergy appointed at least ½ time are eligible to participate in Compass. Those appointed ¼ time are ineligible for Compass but can make personal contributions to the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan - UMPIP. With Compass, the church will contribute an annual flat contribution based on appointment percentage (Full-time = $1,800, ¾ time = $1,350, ½ time = $900, ¼ time = N/A) and a non-matching annual contribution of 3% of PPC (Pension Plan Compensation.) In addition, the church will match personal clergy contributions to Compass up to 4% of PPC. By making personal contributions of at least 4% of PPC, clergy receive the full matching contribution from the church of 4%. So, by making a 4% contribution, clergy will see 8% of their PPC added to their account (clergy contribution 4% + matching church contribution of 4% = 8%) This matching contribution is in addition to the flat dollar amount and the 3% of PPC clergy receive from the church. If clergy contribute less than 4% of PPC to Compass, they will only receive a match of the percentage contributed. If there is no personal contribution, there will be no match contributed by the church. The plan's generosity is intended to make the full 4% available. Regardless of clergy personal contributions, the church will be billed the full matching annual contribution of 4% of PPC. Surplus matching contributions will be held in a general HTC pension account at Wespath.
