Genesis: A Journey in Church Planting and Innovation
Genesis is designed for leaders who are called to start new congregations or innovative faith communities that seek to reach new people. This six-month cohort, hosted by the Horizon Texas Conference, provides structured support, coaching, and practical tools to help church planters develop a Missional Action Plan for launching new faith communities.
The journey begins with an in-person "Co-Creator Event" on May 12-13, a two-day immersive seminar on the essentials of starting something new. From there, participants will engage in three key rhythms, each lasting two months:
Rhythm 1: Listening – Understanding the community and discerning where God is at work.
Rhythm 2: Connecting – Building relationships and forming a foundation for a new congregation.
Rhythm 3: Gathering – Bringing people together to cultivate a faith community.
The cohort includes interactive learning modules, coaching, and live webinars, all delivered through a Learning Management System (LMS) for accessible and flexible engagement.
If you’re looking to step boldly into church planting and innovation, Genesis will equip you with the vision, strategy, and community to make it happen.
Join us for the Co-Creator Event on May 12-13 and begin your journey with the Genesis Cohort!

UMVIM Mission Trip Leader Training
Are you aware of the 6 Best Practices for a UMVIM Team?
If you want to learn how to lead a mission trip, of any kind (construction, educational, medical/dental, evangelistic, local pastor training/congregational development, sewing, agricultural, etc.) in an effective manner and to places like Africa, Haiti or Joplin, Missouri, then UMVIM training is for you.
Even if you have had the training in the past but have not gone through a class in the last five years, you need to attend a VIM training for a refresher course. *Some Methodist-endorsed mission sites require a VIM training certificate of completion. Please scroll down for MinistrySafe requirements for our UMVIM Team Leaders.
Please plan to bring a sack lunch and join us Saturday, May 3, 2025, 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Salado UMC, 650 Royal Street, Salado, TX 76571.
*All UMVIM Team Leaders are now required to be compliant with the MinistrySafe abuse prevention system adapted by all churches in the Horizon Texas Conference. Please contact your church to take this online class and go through the process of completing the application, background check, interview, and reference checks. Then complete the MinistrySafe Compliance Form. Please remember that even if youth and children are not on your team, the homes you are working on may have children, youth, and vulnerable adults at that location. Let us be good stewards of caring for God's people!
If you have any questions regarding registration or the class material, please email Andrea Heater at aheater@saladoumc.org.

2025 Town & Country Retreat
The 2025 Horizon Texas Conference Town & Country Retreat is an enriching event designed for both learning and connection. This two-day gathering of clergy and laity offers participants the opportunity to engage with Rev. Allen Stanton, a United Methodist pastor and Executive Director of the Turner Center at Martin Methodist College in Tennessee, while also fostering relationships with others serving in Town and Country churches.
Recognizing the unique and historic role these churches play in our United Methodist heritage—and our commitment to their continued growth—we anticipate this retreat will be the first of many!
